L'azienda HUHTAMAKI FLEXIBLES ITALY S.R.L. operates in the metal packaging and wrapping sector, and is also present in the plastic packaging and wooden packaging sectors. The Italian headquarters is located in Carbonara Scrivia (AL).

Considerandone le attività e i settori di competenza è importante valutarne anche la sicurezza in confined space, one of the branches più delicate for the possible presence of workplace risk atmosphere.

Nel caso specifico le attività consistevano in interventi di maintenance and expansion dell’area filtrazione solventi della Huhtamaki Flexibles Italy S.r.l. di Carbonara Scrivia (AL) ubicata all’interno dell’area industriale presente.

Più precisamente l’attività consisteva nel:

1. installation of a new refrigeration unit,
2. a new evaporation tower
3. la sostituzione di alcuni componenti dell’impianto
4. Expansion of the filtration bed made of activated carbon.

Quest’ultima attività rientrava nei confined space work, ai sensi dell'art.3, comma 2, del D.P.R. 177/2011 in quanto si rendeva necessario l’accesso all’interno dei filtri costituito da serbatoi di acciaio.

Il rischio presente consisteva in modo particolare alla possibile presenza di residui di solvente ed anche alle difficoltà di accesso e eventuale recupero dei lavoratori dall’interno dei serbatoi.
