Earth Hour - L'ora della Terra
Torna, anche quest’anno, l’Earth Hour, l’Ora della Terra, iniziativa mondiale del WWF sul clima; un’ora di buio per migliaia di monumenti nel mondo, milioni di cittadini che spengono la luce per dirci che
LA NATURA CONTA
E dimostrare, con un gesto simbolico, un “impegno concreto per la salute del pianeta”.
Il cambiamento in atto
Il direttore di WWF International Marco Lambertini spiega che “il tasso globale di perdita della natura a cui abbiamo assistito negli ultimi 50 anni non ha precedenti nella storia dell’umanità”.
L’evoluzione repentina del cambiamento climatico sta portando ad impatti sempre più seri e preoccupanti, le azioni a livello globale sono lente e poco incisive e non vanno di pari passo con il rischio che mette a repentaglio il nostro Pianeta, almeno per come lo conosciamo oggi.
Quando parliamo per esempio dell’effetto-clima sulle specie animali parliamo di un vero e proprio amplificatore della “sesta estinzione di massa” ma, al contrario delle prime 5 estinzioni già avvenute, non stiamo parlando di cause che derivano da fenomeni geologici naturali ma è causata da una sola specie: l’uomo.
Ma gli animali non sono le sole vittime del cambiamento: le foreste, per esempio, che sono cruciali nella lotta al cambiamento climatico producendo oltre il 40% dell’ossigeno terrestre, nello scenario attuale e a causa della deforestazione, stanno provocando dal 12 al 20% delle emissioni di gas serra.
E l’acqua?
Anche attraverso la sua osservazione possiamo percepire il cambiamento climatico.
Se non riuscissimo a limitare il riscaldamento globale entro i 2 gradi, anche per gli oceani le conseguenze sarebbero importanti, rischiamo infatti di perdere il 99% delle barriere coralline; le persone invece che si troverebbero in una condizione di “scarsità d’acqua” potrebbero essere quasi 300 milioni nel solo suolo europeo.
E’ importante agire oggi
Bisogna quindi intervenire e fare sentire la nostra voce.
Per questo il WWF ha sponsorizzato una della più grandi mobilitazioni globali che, partendo appunto da un gesto simbolico di spegnere le luci per un’ora unirà cittadini, imprese e istituzioni.
La volontà è quella di dimostrare che siamo tutti uniti nella lotta per il cambiamento climatico e vincere le difficili sfide che ci verranno sottoposte nei prossimi anni per dare al nostro mondo un futuro sostenibile.
E’ importante creare consapevolezza e valore alle scelte quotidiane del singolo: è l’unione di piccoli gesti che può fare la differenza.
